From the Victorian era through the 1960's ladies and little girls wore gloves on special occasions. Dress up any outfit with gloves to add special glamour!

Nice hands have always been a symbol of social status. Gloves could hide the rough hands of a hard working housewife or accent the glamorous outfit of a true lady. However, the style and quality of the gloves still belied the true social status of the wearer.

As a child in the 1960's white cotton gloves were an absolute requirement for going to church, especially on Easter Sunday when a hat, lace edge white socks and white patent leather shoes rounded out my new spring outfit.

We added gloves because they keep turning up in our auction purchases, often tucked in with a woman's finest linens to be kept nice for a special occasion.
